Seventeen years ago Sam's father hid a mysterious box in the wall of apartment 1412 and now Sam has come to the strange world of Los Angeles to claim it.

But the rooms have been renumbered, and Sam's search soon leads him through the lives of an odd-ball building manager and an eccentric young woman.

When Sam discovers the woman in a bathtub with her throat slit, things start to spin out of his control. The final moments of her life spill out in front of him, an experience that not only changes his situation for the worse, but possibly his heart for the better.
